Polly’s Playground

Polly’s Playground was a collective project initiated by Polly’s Picture Show at Hotel Maria Kapel. Inspired by the ideas of Constant Nieuwenhuis and his vision of experimentation and creative play, the chapel was transformed into an open playground for artists.

Nineteen artists were invited to develop new work within a limited timeframe. Filled with wood, paint, chalk, photocopiers, and found materials, the space continuously shifted throughout the working period. Sculptures were built, dismantled, reused, photographed, filmed, and rearranged, creating an environment in which production, experimentation, and presentation constantly overlapped.

For the final exhibition, Polly’s Picture Show composed a large collective installation combining artworks, documentation, found objects, and reinterpretations of previously made works. At the center of the exhibition was a kinetic installation that activated different artworks as if they were characters on a stage. Triggered by visitors, a sequence of sound, movement, and light transformed the exhibition into a continuously changing performance.

The project explored the boundaries between artist and curator, artwork and display, object and presentation.
