Flatland is a spatial experiment inspired by the satirical novella Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott, originally published in 1884.
Set in an imaginary two-dimensional world inhabited by geometric figures, the book explores how society is structured through shape and dimension. Drawing from these ideas, the installation investigates perspective, scale, and spatial perception.
Using wooden slats, I created an installation that changes depending on the viewer’s position. From one angle, the slats appear to expand into large architectural forms; from another, they seem to compress into smaller structures. The work continuously shifts between flatness and depth, stability and distortion.
Through this play with dimensions and perspective, the installation invites viewers to become aware of how space is perceived and constructed through movement and viewpoint.
